Victoria & Abdul

My preference is to attend the earliest show
generally there are very few others in the theater
Today was different
Not only was the film well attended
The audience was rather diverse

The story,
based on true events,
touches on many issues of the day.

The movie is a treat for the eye
the music gives a good guide and balance for the heart
The story has insight.
uncomfortable truth
plenty of beauty
I'm always grateful to be a credit reader
so people don't see the emotional process as i prepare to face
every day again.
(you may need tissue, or a sleeve - at least once)

this last photo is actually them
There wasn't a royal dog represented in the film
sigh

Believe

Just what i needed
"sandbagging" a bit today
because
sometimes the world seems to tilt
towards a darker view

Time to call in reinforcement
Then, this movie showed up.
helped me by recognizing there is mean stuff
BUT, we can continue to stay the course
HELP always arrives

 There was Hope, Faith, Community
The credit roll was an extra delight

NOW, I get to hustle to catch up around here.

Ducks

Because I miss TexWisGirl - run-a-roundranch
Gotta share some ducks

My pup and I go for nature walks
Our favorite spots see us so often
wild creatures don't bother to run away

my 100 lb pupster assures me she will stand steady
while I "point & shoot" with the teeny camera
SO:
Ducks

we see lots of creatures, but enjoy the adventure so much
we simply get happy and continue on our way.
Hope you are all safe, well and happy.

Here Ya Go . . .

 put tiny camera in pocket
returned to wacky sculpture park
to share new installation with you

It's actually HUGE

One sign promises there's conservation projects going on
the other asks people not to climb on art

This guy was moved to make room

Now the guy seems to be lurking

Note to Self

Put Camera in Pocket
The pupster & I were walking in the crazy sculpture park
I only like the place when the pupster is with me
We noticed the giant man was moved
Today there's an enormous deer . . gotta remember to capture it for you.

Inspiring hero of the moment
George Whitefield
(some of us spell it Whitfield because that's how we say it.)
D'ya know about him?
He prayed one day we'd become
"One Nation Under God"
complementary portrait from BBC

Reading
added to my reading list by MonkeyWrangler
Do you already know this blog?

Saw last week:
The Women's Balcony (Trailer/video)

There's a small theater that specializes in independent and foreign film.
The kind of stories I enjoy.
I try to attend early, so I'm often the only - or one of a very few -
in the theater -
The place reminds me of San Francisco.
There was a unique film theater within walking distance
(loong walk)
from my home.

Gotta Post - It's Friday!

Sometimes i think
"Got Nothin' To Share"
But then
I remember it's Friday
time to connect with YOU.
Which is happy-making.

SO,  I'm not good at this, yet -
I'm learning to sketch.

I do one sketch a day
(well, sometimes two, if i must miss a day)
This is a first try at the mailbox
just a few days ago.

promotional pen from the pupster's daycamp
and color pencil
on cost-effective paper -
(because, well, I'm learning . . . giggle)

Hmm - I think that's already five.
Now, I'm gonna post
and then zoom to your pages to see what you've shared.

Baby Roo

I keep thinking about a story from "Winnie The Pooh"
about Baby Roo.
He did not want to take a bath
so, he ran away and hid.
Things did not go as planned
and he thought he could put everything right by jumping out and saying,
Ah Ha!  I'm NOT Piglet, I'm Baby Roo!

Pooh stories are a "go to" place of comfort
because a mother
stayed in the hospital with me
(instead of going home with her own child)
and read a book out loud to me
even when I was sleeping
so I would not be frightened.

When i went to find a picture to share with you
I found This Great True Story instead.

I'll try to return in time for Willy-Nilly later this week -

For now I'll share
A Family Friendly Feature Film
about a true story
This big white pupster
(who caused a lot of trouble for his community until
he found his calling)
Saved a colony of tiny penguins

at times the story is a little stressful
(like all good stories)

It has a satisfactory outcome

The story didn't tell you that the idea
came from the first dog, "Oddball"
BUT - other dogs were properly trained to do the actual
penguin protecting work
the breed is Maremma.
I think this is a photo of the actual "first person"
"Swampy"
and a young Maremma

I rent from netflix
BUT
Noticed this film is view-able for free online

simple, true, uplifting

From our friend, Danny Maseng (video) :

Morning Prayer - Elohai N'tzor

Dear God, Guard my speech and my lips from evil and deception.
Before those who slander me i will hold my tongue
and practice humility
Open my heart to YOU
Those who would do evil towards me - frustrate their schemes
Thank you for protecting Your Family

May the words of my mouth and meditations of my heart be acceptable to YOU

May The One who makes peace in the high heavens
make peace for all of us on earth
Amen

Sourdough Wars

I receive emails offering titles to read that are so far removed from my everyday that it's fun to check them out.  I read Sourdough Wars by Julie Smith.
Heaven knows what I'll be entertaining myself with next.

Wednesdays are my longest days.
By the time my puppy & i get home
we attend to creature needs
(our cat will be waiting for us)
and chill
Last Wednesday I watched
It was classy, the music was great, the art spectacular
and it had dignity.
A sweet nightcap
after the fur family had treats, of course.
Pupster and her friend
Our next door neighbor pup visits often.
He comes to play in our yard, have cookies, drink water, check out the cat . . .
He simply knows he is welcome
My girl always wants him to stay.

They are happy kids.

Sunday Night Ramble . . .

I don't know the source for this girl & dog
They sure look like storybook creatures

Last week someone asked if I'd consider offering dance lessons
(took it as a compliment)

I've had extra "work" opportunities lately
(if you can consider what i do "work")
Sure am grateful

This is one of my own photos
Seems I take plenty of bench pictures

hmmm . . .

Happy Mail

\
Ongoing project -
painting postcards
 sending them to mailboxes
with happy messages

Missed the film when it was in theaters
watched it last night
(video official trailer for the feature film "Loving.")
Wow
There's a lot to think about
I won't get sappy
I was thrilled to see, among the investors
"I absolutely don't care about my looks and I'm so used to them that I wouldn't change a thing. I would end up missing my defects."
- Colin Firth

pretty sure that's five

Roald Dahl

Lots of favorite authors
has always been one of them

Had the DVD
"BFG"
When I returned from work this afternoon
spent time in pure bliss

I was taught "Beauty In, Beauty Out"
Pretty sure this film fit the directive.

Hope the author would have been delighted, too.

Enjoyed it.
I'd been waiting for it to get here.

Doing Stuff

(giggle)

Cool stuff occurs at the "reading station."
Young lady insisted she was not able to read a picture book.
Tapped it with her eraser and claimed two more times . . .
Have no clue who told her that.
"It's okay, we can read it together,
I'll help."

I get excited and begin to read
young lady recognizes words
by the third page
she'd grabbed the book and started reading
for all the world to hear
using a
LOUD
Happy Voice.

Color me thrilled.

Moana

Oh My Fur & Whiskers!
I ordered this feature film from netflix because so many of my story time families enjoyed it.
Now i feel a tad guilty for watching it at home
because it took so much talent, time, research, effort
SOOOOO Many People

A true cooperative effort.

Beautiful to look at
tells the stories in a well crafted, unique way
gives credit to a massive amount of researchers that helped

me?
enjoying at home
cat in my lap
pupster at my feet?

It feels as if i should have done much more.
at least dressed up

seen it?
what didja think?

Oh My!

It's almost time for Gunsmoke

The pupster & i walked early this morning

we're expecting lots more, surely we'll be soaked soon

The picture?

cool

 My Foster Father

Mercy and Fabulous Stories

There is a Retreat Center
I used to visit often
because a wonderful artist would invite me to spend time
Saturday I decided to walk their labyrinth,
and share it with you.
Thank you, Sisters of Mercy,

I am finally brave enough to apply for a new permanent/part time position.

We've had a few "gully-washers."
 (Super Duper Rain Storms)
My pupster & I managed to ride way out in the county
in between storms and enjoy a couple miles of nature walk.
yippee!

Visited a teeny cemetery being cared for by the city of Crestwood, MO and the D.A.R.
Kept meaning to share this place, it sits in an unusual spot.
When I finally took the time
I learned a lot of fabulous life stories

Monday, March 13, 2017

I am reading:

haven't finished - can't give away the ending (yet)
it's a good time to tell you about the reading adventure

It takes place after the Civil War
and we are traveling through Texas
because
A war veteran - retired, gentleman - having lost everything because of the war -
makes a living by reading newspaper stories
to crowds of fascinated people.
His presentations cost a dime per person.
He is worth it.

He has been asked and hired to transport a girl
- who was taken from her original family
and raised by the Kiowa -
to relatives.
The adventure expected to take three weeks going
and three weeks returning.

Written by Paulette Jiles

This book called to me from a shelf in our county library.
Have a library card?
I suggest you might enjoy this book
