Fresh Look at Old Story

Before Story Time this morning
I pulled out my favorite camera
to share this with you.

Every Wednesday Morning for a lot of years
we celebrate the ideas in this story.

I was so excited when this first arrived
I told our story time crowd.
For weeks the staff told me
about parents with small children
filing past.

Handful of Leaves

This morning
a child sang and danced with me
on the sidewalk
while we waited for a bookstore to open
she picked up leaves one at a time and placed them in my cupped hands

just wanted to share.

So Many Trains . . .

I read a lot of reviews before visiting this place.
Several said the place was way too small.
I can't begin to understand what they meant
I'm STILL sorting photos
The trains alone -
there are HUGE sheds full of one of a kind saves from history
and row upon row of these
you could spend weeks walking through and learning.

sigh

(yep - STILL talking about the Museum of Transportation)

Sunday, November 13, 2016

I just like this . . .

I'm STILL trying to sort out that first visit to the Museum of Transportation.
There was a book for sale, a catalogue of most items in the collection.
Might have helped me understand what the heck these things are
giggle
I went on a storming day
stuff was closed
very few people were there
being shy
this works for me
but
ignorant about the things my eyes were taking in
(sigh)
a book, or a day with educators
might help

 I like this photo
can you imagine getting out of your cutie-pie tiny vehicle
and walking past stuff like this?

Whoa!

First visit to Museum of Transportation

 A new story/adventure to sort.
Visited the Museum of Transportation.

Look!
 finally got a fantastic photo

Edsel and 57 Chevy in the showroom, pretending to be at a drive-in movie

The place - completely overwhelming.

I'll return, for sure.

Research Library, Vehicle Show Room, Enormous Train collection.
Lots of historical - only one left - treasures,
some aircraft . . .

Thanks!

Awesome Edit:  Thank You, TOM!!!

While others looked for wildfolwers . . .

Classmates walked together towards the wildflower garden at the base of a hill
I decided to look for wonders
around the bend
in a lovely, secluded spot
I found a lone headstone.
I focused on the heading and could not find proper information
(if you click on the photo - you'll be able to read the stone)
asking for help
(Rangers are excellent people)
The entire family plot was moved from the nature reserve
BUT
Mary Isabelle was not found for several decades.
I wonder if she loved this land?
It's a beautiful place

Up the walkway from the wildflower garden
protected by trees
and kind park rangers
Mary Isabelle Davis
rests.

She was born in Osage County, Missouri.
She married a farmer
left us when she was 31
on September 3rd, 1884.

Still processing nature reserve adventure . . .

The visit changed me somehow
a little over three weeks ago
 still sorting thoughts

Unlike many of you
I'm not a camera master

Nature managed on her own
to get me started

return again in a few weeks
another wagon tour
sure to amaze

 wonder what I'll find
Mid-November

My list has grown . . .

Entrance to Children's Garden at Missouri Botanical Garden

Until yesterday i had two absolute favorite places in the St. Louis Area
"The Garden"
"The Art Museum."

Yesterday I attended an event at the Nature Reserve.
Two hours in a mighty nice wagon
learning about natural local species management
Worth Every Moment
There's a lot more to see
and learn
Guess there's a third hang-out on my list

Happy October!

We Have Meaning . . .

Sometimes i stop and watch a few moments of a movie
then return to what i was doing
Took a few days
savoring this calm, beautiful film
"Sweet Bean"
Americans might say it's a "slice of life" movie
Nothing explodes
No caped heroes, or villains with super powers show up

People "walk a while" in a story
through everyday, simple stuff
listen to one another
while moving through their situations
build bonds -
as if we are walking through life with friends

at the end, one explains we are here to listen and to see
we don't have to be "Someone"
We have meaning

I enjoyed the time spent

guess you already knew that, because I zoomed over here to share with you.

love & love,

Bird Fair

Lawn sign, kinda small-ish - could be seen along the path
mentioning a "Bird Fair."
Date on the sign had been marked over - with crayon - new date written below.
Another matching lawn sign a mile or more away.
Same scribble - same date
a website was mentioned
I decided to check it out

It was on a nice day
in a Plumbers Hall in Bridgeton, MO

Maybe I'd see friends. I know a few parrots, cockatoo, a toucan and a couple more "hook beaked" creatures living with humans.

Didn't see anyone I knew.
Met some friendly people.
Some traveled quite a distance.
Everyone explained those lawn signs are "the way" they advertise and invite folk.

In the hallway, outside the main room, there were ladies from a parrot rescue group.
They had smiles, conversation and gifts to give donators.
There were raffle tables to help raise money, i think also for birds needing assistance.
Inside the main room was packed with vendors
I should have realized.
There were amazing, beautiful birds.
The kind people in Australia see and hear
in bushes and trees outside their homes.
So many lovely colors.
There were flash cameras,
somehow, i couldn't get into the mood
found no desire to create chaos

There was a nifty Cockatoo
who knew how to attract attention
It was on a perch in the middle of a sales area
yelling. holding on and flapping, so it seemed to take flight,
without leaving it's assigned space

There were older macaws sitting close to their people
kinda mumbling it parrot-ese

There were lots of colorful spaces filled with toys, t-shirts, enormous cages,
specially formulated seed mixtures . . a huge pet store for smart birds packed in to a smallish space.
Toward the back there were calm birds on perches.
I asked the vendor questions
His dad owns the business, making special perches.

There were people able to come close and tease the parrots
-sigh-
I promise not to rant

Then, before the first hour was up, a lorikeet was loose
trained people calmly went to the closed off balcony upstairs to try and help the frightened bird
Their professional behavior was impressive.

A few
 event guests
tried to leap up and snag the beautiful freedom seeking bird

 time for me to go
(in this photo you can see one and a half "helpers"
trying to save the bird.  You can also see a large
-event guest-
 determined to misbehave)

We have a magnificent - world class - place to see & visit birds.
I'll have to take my camera there
to share with you.

love & love,

James Clyde and the Diamonds of Orchestra

This story comes from Ireland.
I tell you right away.
It may be you are one who believes
magic left Ireland in the Middle Ages.
Bards and Tellers tell you different, if you're willing to listen.
This Book and the story it contains
arrived from Ireland.

I had a message from the author asking if I'd want to read his book.
It arrived on my birthday
only a magic few know the date
Nearing the last few pages, I tried everything possible to make the story last.  Walked the dog, read two pages, washed dishes, another two pages, worked on a painting . . . couldn't resist.  Finished the story and hoped there would be more volumes . . soon.

I hope you order it.
It's time for an Irish Story Invasion
don't you think?

That Stacked Stone Thing . . . .

Enamored with a stacked stone 'discovery' a while back.
Researched and visited, finding it is a poured concrete art exhibit.
Got it into my head to visit a stacked stone shrine built last century
 by a Franciscan Brother.

Weather here causes plans to change.
Days passed before the adventure into unincorporated, rural Missouri happened.
Sure had fun.

See?  Rocks, Sea Shells, Glittery Bits, Places where sun shines through Colored Glass -
Figurines . . . The rocks came from a settlement called "Old Mines" - which is another story altogether . . (so, I'll refrain.)

Other stuff was given by people who cared and wanted to be some small part of the project.
The Franciscan spent years personally stacking, shaping and designing -

The bit above is part of the St. Francis Grotto

The Monk and the statue artist were both from Poland.

Here's a place to rest for a bit
(yes, i STILL have "a thing" for benches.)

In another space there's a grotto filled with the Nativity Scene.
I got lots of pictures -
I'm a big fan of the donkey
or burro
so, got up close for this

Okay, just wanted to get back to you about that "stacked stone" thing
and then,
share something
I liked better.

Gunsmoke

I often stop mid-day to watch Gunsmoke.
It plays on Me-TV - (a retro channel)
The depth of writing humbles me.
Episode #7104 - "The Magician" aired today.
Whew
Cried - Felt Understood
Explained how I got to be mySelf.
and demonstrated the rule "shake the dust from your feet . . ."
I'm astonished.
sigh
and ready to get back to my day.

I have picked an adventure for this week.
I wonder if I'll go tomorrow

we are expecting some "unsettled weather."
around here that suggests staying informed
taking classes, reading books, playing with paints again,
following my own advice
"when in doubt, do something"
 may this new week
be
Brilliant!

I started taking pictures because Nancy inspired me
i miss her

Researched park and found way too much information

Startled by a Big Bird
we stared at each other for a while
my new camera and i aren't friends, yet
so . . only the moment to remember.

Imagined a new way to share old information

Contemplating

Okay, this is one of the countless photos I've taken of benches.
i don't know WHY i take photos of benches.
This is in the English Woodland Garden @ the Missouri Botanical Garden
I don't know when i took this photo

At the moment I am contemplating
so, pretending i am right there, right now
is a lovely thought
