Walt Whitman (yes, it seems my interest in him never fails . . right??)

"This is what you shall do: Love the earth and sun and the animals, despise riches, give alms to everyone that asks, stand up for the stupid and crazy, devote your income and labor to others, hate tyrants, argue not concerning God, have patience and indulgence toward the people, take off your hat to nothing known or unknown, or to any man or number of men—go freely with powerful uneducated persons, and with the young, and with the mothers of families—re-examine all you have been told in school or church or in any book, and dismiss whatever insults your own soul; and your very flesh shall be a great poem, and have the richest fluency, not only in its words, but in the silent lines of its lips and face, and between the lashes of your eyes, and in every motion and joint of your body."
--from Preface to “Leaves of Grass" (1855)

Diane Wolkstein

(the official storyteller of New York City)
was one of my teachers
She has left us
Still things she shared
Continue to Guide me.

I suspect she'll be turning up in posts
and ever better
in my life
quite a bit in this coming year.

She continues to be a Marvelous Guide, Inspiration, Teacher

Today She is in my thoughts

Color me Blessed.

Advent Report . . (giggle)

You are so kind to me
you noticed my heart was searching
I was offered border collies,
the rescue group who did not think i was right for their tall puppy,
checked references and suddenly changed their minds
They offered me the girl I'd gone to meet
and also asked me to consider
any of their dogs
which was a compliment

Okay, YESTERDAY - i traveled the region telling stories and singing songs
the company that hired me was very generous
which was perfect
Today, my new friend,
who will be VERY TALL,
from Oklahoma
and is sure to need some gear

(introducing Mia)

You are all so kind
and generous
I feel as if you ARE my friends and family
I am Grateful
I suspect You are All Angels.

love & love,

ps - this was taken moments after arrival.
so the people who sent her could see she's here.
Notice the puzzled look on her face?
Early this morning she had a bath, was put in a crate with a sibling,
and delivered, via transport
into my arms.

We've been together four hours now, She knows how to ask to go outside,
and she knows how to rest
right here by my side

bet you were gonna ask:
she is 10 weeks old
her bother was traveling to the other side of the state
someone must have been waiting for him like i was for Mia

Just watched this . . .

Sometimes i laughed
One time i hoped for a good out come
and was rewarded

Many times i was lifted
with a loving view of how things
could be

I was happy to see this graphic

I sent it to my friend
who produced so many albums
 and stage plays
to expand the way people thought
about creatures
She allowed me to sing
for several of her projects

The Library

One of my Favorite Hang Outs
is the Library

have you checked one out lately??
if you can't visit personally,
you can still do a LOT

okay, okay - there are STILL way cool mobile units
when i first arrived here, I walked to meet up with the Traveling Library -
I still LOVE that

BUT, also - from whatever link up device you use
you can borrow a book, get information, renew material,
learn a language
YES!!!  With your library card
you can learn a language!!
can you imagine?

Our downtown library has new ways to have meetings
a cafe
and auditorium
and events
and classes
including dance
I mean

A Library
It's WAY Cool

sigh, life is good.

Someone posted this online - i just like it . .

i have a friend who said he was attending a wedding this weekend
i keep thinking
This is the time of year
a lot of us
 consider vows

we could all be reminded
our relationships
something High, Pure and Holy

I would like to grow in to the kind of person
who remembers this

In the meantime
I really like this picture

Looking Forward . . .

We are in the Days of Awe
There is so much all around
messages from people i barely know
marvels everywhere i look

Promises to believe in
a twist in the path that
Affords a Better View

Constant Reminders
All Is Well

a day to rest up
(nice, it was needed)

For All Of You
I wish Every Bit of Sweetness Life Can Bring

Art Outside

What a terrific life
yesterday was my first experience
doing a tiny tot storytime
hour long set
main stage
at an established art fair
it was the first time they decided to try inviting a story teller

We ALL called it a terrific success
and we have been invited back
next year

It isn't such a huge stretch from concert performing (musical) artist
to story teller

I admit to surprising a lot of people
but, you would not blink an eye
knowing I do it all differently
we all sing & dance together
the young people claim the event
everything changes in a heart beat
to include their ideas.

yesterday i learned a cave looks like a rainbow
is dark inside
and friendly bats live there
also, some children sleep very quietly

I learned the third little pig bought the vacant lot
across the street from his mother's house
and, after earning his doctorate
built a three story brick home
with a circular staircase
bedrooms on the second floor
ballroom and playroom on the third floor
kitchen in the basement
with everything you could want for your favorite sandwiches
the alarm system was so sophisticated
that no one
not even the baddest
huffy puffy wolf
could break in

perhaps my favorite moment
is when we rode fast things
especially a time machine
that took us to the future
where there is Peace
We brought that Peace home
with us
to share on a sunny
storytime day
in Maplewood, MO

an awesome art fair for everyone

On facebook there is a game called
"Throwback Thursday"
people post photos of themselves from 'before"
Today, i decided to play:
When you see a guitar in my hands
it is a 20th Century Photo
This is from a fundraiser concert
Budmire the Border Collie is somewhere close by

hope all your memories turn sweet

Being Silly

Decided to scan some of my altered book pages
so i can have a new
art exhibit on my wall

Tuesday, July 22, 2014

I need a camera refresher

he's only ten pounds, but he dreams big
(I see why photographers don't choose black dogs)
he's been through a lot
he's pretty brave
We had to give Osa Magillicutty Happy Pants back to God
and it made things challenging for us

So, I've given him a new story
I tell him
His daddy was a Griffin who lived and served
on top of a High, Holy Cathedral
and his mom was a Happy Sunbeam.
When they met and fell in love
He came into the world to be a spark of Life
to lift and bless others.
He is willing to believe big
because his new lady is so unusual

His new lady will need to learn new camera skills
it will be fun

there's a lot of story here
for me to discover.

love & love,

"The Nance"

Here's a link:

It's the stage play on film
(Broadway Direct)
It is playing only twice here
(I'm in Saint Louis, MO)
so, i attended the first showing
which was last night

If you are in this city,
it plays again Sunday
(July 20th)
at noon

Performance Art
sometimes i am satisfied knowing my tradition
is filled with so much

"Isolate yourself for a moment every day,
preferably in your Sanctum,
and send thoughts of love, harmony and health toward humanity as a whole,
especially to those who suffer mentally or physically.
Ask God to assist them on all planes and to preserve them
as much as possible from the ordeals of life."

This has been a week - for sure -

I am grateful to have made it
I won't share the twists and turns
although we all know that alterations
clear the way for great opportunities

I will share with you a mid-week
bright spot
 Story Lady - that's me.
This is how the envelope was addressed.
This was the nanny's last day.
There were two children.
I knew them before the youngest (a boy) was born.
The two, a sister and brother attended a story time i had across town.
That story time was canceled,
the children insisted the parents find me,
and they started showing up at another story time.
They grew up - with several different guardians
sometimes they made their parents or grandparents
bring them.
I LOVED when their dad came
he is a very special man.
he teaches kindergarten for the special school district.
He is pure magic.
Eventually they got the BEST Nanny Ever.
Then, the sister grew up and went to school.
The little brother turned in to his own, unique person.
This week is officially out for the sister and dad for the summer.
The children are grown enough they no loner need their nanny
so, it was "our last day" together.
Here is the graphic on the face of the card
Here is the note
from nanny & boy.

I am blessed

love & love,

the story lady

ps - there is already a new batch of story-attendees . . .
life is good.

I didn't know it was going to be in French

I didn't know it was a Canadian film
I didn't realize it was going to touch my heart
and, even one day later i would still be stopping
to think about it
and say
"Wow, that was a good film."

Hope and a Future

That is the Promise
I am always surprised
there is always more
it is always better than i imagined
Happy Reminder of the Ordination
of a
21st Century Maggid

Sunday, June 08, 2014

shhh -

I ordered flowers -
i ordered them last week
 to arrive Tuesday
like i do every year
people are surprised, because they go about their very busy lives
then suddenly they remember
 they cheered me on
were there to witness
and have cake
and sign the document
and race home to beat a super rain storm
which is a GOOD SIGN
tomorrow is the anniversary of
the creation
of a
21st Century Maggid

shhh . . .
soon, they'll be surprised - to remember they were present
to witness
the actual moment

I have been trying to convince myself

it is, maybe a block and a half from my favorite library
a dear friend of mine works there creating magical mosaics
i see it often from bus windows
last week i noticed there was a statue of a hippopotamus looking at us from the roof

Still, I haven't been

There IS a "City Museum"
I would LOVE to visit

Isn't this a fabulous thought???

It's some kind of inner dilemma
NOT visiting the one
and wildly interested in the other

in fact, i have a list of crazy cool places I'd like to see

Do you have places you prefer to avoid
and a list of places you know lift the heart of humankind??

Just asking . . .
love & love,
